Solar Oven Design Challenge

This exciting and hands-on project is designed to challenge students to use their creativity and scientific knowledge to design a sustainable solution to cooking and dehydrating food. The Solar Oven Project is a teacher resource that guides students through the process of designing and building a solar oven using passive solar design principles. The aim of the project is to warm up the oven using solar energy and sustain the temperature for as long as possible, cooking or dehydrating food in an environmentally friendly way.

In order to create an effective design, students will need to research the materials they will use, considering sustainability as a top priority. They will be asked to think critically and apply their knowledge of science and engineering to create a draft design, followed by a prototype that they can test and evaluate. The project culminates in a presentation to the whole class, where students can showcase their design process, results, and evaluation.

This lesson plan provides a unique opportunity for students to develop their problem-solving skills and understand the importance of sustainability in the world today. By participating in the Solar Oven Project, students will gain valuable experience in designing and building prototypes, while also learning about passive solar design and the importance of using renewable energy sources. This teacher resource is an excellent tool for engaging students in hands-on, STEM-related activities and promoting an interest in sustainability and environmental conservation.
