Let it grow! Unit Plan

This exciting lesson plan for teachers combines the best of both worlds – science and design technology. In this unit, students will have the opportunity to develop their science inquiry skills and design thinking as they work to solve a real-world problem. The goal of the unit is to explore the need for fresh food throughout the school day to help maintain physical and mental energy levels.

To accomplish this, students will conduct an in-depth inquiry into the optimal conditions for growing plants within the school grounds. This will include research into the best soil type, light exposure, watering schedules and more. Using their findings, students will then design a sustainable garden space that will provide the school community with fresh, healthy snacks.

Students will not only develop their science inquiry skills, but they will also learn about the importance of sustainability and healthy eating habits. In addition, the design process will help students improve their Design and Technologies production skills, as they work to create a functional and attractive garden space. This lesson plan is a great way for teachers to help students connect their learning to the real world, and provides a fun and interactive way for students to engage with science and technology concepts.
