Peri-urban Farming

Peri-urban farming is generally defined as agricultural production and related processes like distribution, marketing, recycling and consulting which produce food and fibre outputs adjoining city regions. As land close to urban areas is typically quite expensive, Peri-urban farming is often more intensive to use space efficiently and cost effectively. The high cost of land can be offset by producing niche products at a premium price with reduced food miles due to enterprises located very close to their markets. It also offers opportunities for newcomers to food and fibre production to develop new and interesting products (entrepreneurship) without owning large farms and combining other work endeavours.

This series of Career Q&A videos forms part of a suite of resources promoting careers within agriculture. Three candidates are interviewed and asked the same series of questions about their careers in agriculture.
