EKKA Learning Trail
The NEW Ekka Learning Trail will take children on an ag-ucational journey through eight trail points.
It’s vital that the next generation understands that everything starts with agriculture, from the food we eat to the clothes we wear.
Eight trail points, which offer engaging activities at the Ekka, will educate visitors about different agricultural topics from farming to animal lifecycles and behaviours.
This year the Ekka Learning Trail is accompanied with additional resources that relate to each trail point, these include specialised teachers’ notes and in-class activities that can be used in the lead-up to, and after the Show, providing a well-rounded educational experience.
Learning trail points include:
- The Paddock to Plate Experience by Australian Good Meat
- Growing Greener with Woolworths
- RACQ Animal Nursery
- Horsing Around Show presented by Racing Queensland
- Norco Farm to Glass Experience
- Cradle-A-Chick
- Sheep Shearing Demonstrations
- Little Backyard Farmers presented by Heritage Bank
The NEW Ekka Learning Trail Teachers Guide provides teachers with essential information that will help with planning their Ekka excursion with ease.
The guide contains everything from alternative activities to suit everyone’s timeframe, important trail point information, links to educational resoucrs, pre-Show activities and general event information.
The NEW Stories in the Stables by Farmer Rhonda are literature-based teaching notes and in-class activities that relate to each of the eight Ekka Learning Trail points. Featured books include, ‘Fabish’ by Neridah McMullin and Andrew McLean, ‘Baa Baa Blue Sheep,’ by Tony Wilson and Laura Wood, and ‘One Camel Called Doug,’ by Lu Fraser and Sarah Warburton.
The updated Educational Extras guide (previously known as the Excursion Planner) is designed to highlight the many additional activities, displays, exhibits, and demonstrations that enhance the educational offering at the Ekka.
