Nutritional Information Playing Cards

As a teacher, you have the opportunity to educate your students about the importance of a healthy diet and the role that fruits, vegetables, and nuts play in it. The International Year of Fruits and Vegetables 2021 (#IYFV2021) is a great opportunity to raise awareness of the horticulture industry in Australia and the premium, safe products it produces. To help you celebrate this important initiative, the playing cards (2.4MB, pdf) have been created to print and make at home or school.

These playing cards not only celebrate Australia’s horticulture industry but also provide a fun and interactive way for students to learn about the nutritional value of different fruits, vegetables, and nuts. The card suits represent different categories of these foods: tropical fruits and nuts, temperate fruits, Australian Indigenous fruits, vegetables and nuts, and vegetables. Each card shows the nutritional information for 100g of a particular fruit, vegetable, or nut, and the game is played by comparing the values of the energy, carbohydrate, protein, fat, or dietary fiber in the players’ hands.

The playing cards are a great resource for teachers to use as a supplement to their lesson plans, providing hands-on learning opportunities for students and encouraging them to think about the food they eat. By using these playing cards in your classroom, you can help your students understand the importance of a balanced diet and the role that fruits, vegetables, and nuts play in maintaining good health.
